My teaching and research complement each other and contribute to the much-needed cross-cultural dialogue among philosophers. Such a dialogue questions the ethnocentric accounts of how knowledge is produced and aims to go beyond mere exchange of information by advancing concrete ways of enriching traditions of perennial wisdom torn apart by apparently irreconcilable differences. More specifically, my form of philosophical conversation not only brings to light the importance of the Islamic tradition of philosophy, often shrouded in a cloud of mystery, it also enables a real intellectual transaction between the Islamic, European, and Anglo-American practitioners of philosophy. As a result, a cosmopolitanism is fostered in which all sides are brought to a better understanding of each other, their philosophical canons and their common humanity.
