Educational Development

I am as passionate about working with my colleagues as I am working with students. When working with faculty and educators my goal is to help them reconnect with why they went into teaching and what they love about working with their students. Using a relational epistemological approach, I always begin with asking the faculty to remember their experience as a student and what made them feel excited to learn and connect to their course and their classmates. In doing so, I hope to empower them to connect with and empower their students to engage, learn, and thrive. When we reveal our humanity to our students and witness theirs, we can transform the classroom to become what bell hooks calls in her Teaching Community: A Pedagogy of Hope: “a place that is life-sustaining and mind expanding, a place of liberating mutuality where teacher and student together work in partnership.”

I work with faculty members across disciplines focusing on the following themes:

      • Inclusive Teaching, Building Community, Fostering a Sense of Belonging.

      • Incorporating Critical Thinking and Logical Reasoning Skills into STEM Courses.

      • Trauma-Informed Education and Cultivating a Learning Sanctuary.

      • Evaluate to Learn and Equity-Centered Assessment.
