The City of Bloomington's Housing and Neighborhood Development (HAND) department provides support to neighborhood associations within the city limits of Bloomington. HAND staff provides neighborhood associations with individualized tools and resources for planning and development and facilitates communication between neighborhoods and City Departments. The Mayfair Neighborhood Association is a registered association with the City and is included in their neighborhood list.
A current map of the Mayfair Neighborhood Association maintained by the City of Bloomington's HAND department can be found by clicking here.
A description of the difference between a Neighborhood Association and a Homeowner's Association - again, from the City of Bloomington's HAND department - can be found by clicking here.
The 10.65 acres of communal land surrounding the Mayfair neighborhood is designated as a Classified Forest and Wildlands tract by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Per the DNR Department of Forestry:
A Classified Forest and Wildlands tract is an area of at least 10.0 contiguous acres of forest or non-forest wildlife habitat where the landowner has agreed (by application) to be a good steward of the land and its natural resources. In return, the State of Indiana agrees to see that the assessed value of the land is significantly reduced and taxed on that preferential assessment. The land is managed for timber production, wildlife habitat, and the protection of watersheds, while conserving other natural resources and values.
Information about the Classified Forest and Wildlands Program can be found here.
