Sustainable Economies Law Center cultivates a new legal landscape that supports community resilience and grassroots economic empowerment. We provide essential legal tools - education, research, advice, and advocacy - so communities everywhere can develop their own sustainable sources of food, housing, energy, jobs, and other vital aspects of a thriving community.
Governance Structure
The Sustainable Economies Law Center (SELC) is a worker-self directed non-profit. Their programs work together to identifying key leverage points in our existing economic and legal systems to remove strategic legal barriers, and creating replicable models for community resilience.
So what's a worker self-directed nonprofit? We are defining this as a nonprofit organization in which all workers have the power to influence the programs in which they work, the conditions of their workplace, their own career paths, and the direction of the organization as a whole.
SELC is organized into different circles to decentralize power, for example, I worked within the Labor Circle but there is also a Housing, Land, and Legal circles. All administrative tasks such as HR, payroll, and scheduling are divided equally among the staff and responsibilities are rotated every 6-months. SELC is constantly adapting to the needs, wants, and passions that fall under the mission statement. That is what makes it a worker-self directed organization.
