If possible try and visit the department of your major, talk to professors etc..
Look them in the eye and be truthful.
Stay away from situations that have the potential to bring trouble.
Take a tour of the campus, education buildings, student services buildings dorms etc…
Eat in the cafeteria where the athletes players eat.
Talk to other athletes that are in the program other then your guide(s).
Ask your guide the good and bad of the Sport program and university.
Ask your guide if he had it to do all over again, would he still come to this same school?
What are his chances of getting a scholarship here?
What is the graduation rate for the Athletic team?
How does this compare to the rest of the student body?
Are tutors provided to the student/athlete?
Who provides the tutors?
Is there a study center provided for the student/athlete?
How many class hours will the student/athlete take per semester?
What type of courses can I expect my son/daughter to take his first year?
What are the grade requirements for eligibility?
Are there counselors provided to the student/athlete if they are having a hard time adjusting to college life?
Will my child’s coach have an “Open Door Policy” for any kind of visit my son needs?
Will I as a parent be able to call his/ her coach and talk to him if needed?
Where are the dorms in relation to the athletic facility?
Are the dorms for athletes only?
Who all lives in the dorms?
How is the food in the cafeteria?
Will my son/ daughter be put on any kind of diet or eating program?
Will my child be “Redshirted” their first year?
What are the chances of playing their first year?
What position will they play?
If they are “Redshirted” what will their role be with the team?
