1969: position of “Researcher” at the Istituto Superiore di Sanità and of “Research Director” from 1984.
1977-2009: Director of the Radiation Biophysics Unit of the Physics Laboratory at the Istituto Superiore di Sanità.
2001-2004: Director of the Physics Laboratory of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità..
1978-2014: Associate Researcher of the Italian National Institute of Nuclear Physics (Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare, INFN) .
2009: retired from the Istituto Superiore di Sanità.
From 2009: continuation of research in Radiation Biology, Radiation Protection and Radiation Therapy as Senior Associate of the Italian National Institute of Nuclear Physics (Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare, INFN) until 2014, and as an independent researcher until present.

Since 1969, Mauro Belli has taught Physics at several Italian Universities (L’Aquila, Roma-La Sapienza, Perugia), and Radiobiology at the Catholic University of Rome and at the University of Cagliari, even after he retired from the Istituto Superiore di Sanità in 2009.
