The Mauritius Film Development Corporation was set up in August 1986 (Act number 31 of 1986). It is supervised by the Ministry of Arts and Culture and it is the Government that takes care its budget. It was established to encourage the growth of the film industry in Mauritius.
The MFDC has for objectives as per its act of 1986 to:
Import, export, exhibit and produce films;
Establish relationship with international persons or bodies for the promotion of film activities;
Hold and promote the holding of film show festivals to cater for the cultural and linguistic needs of Mauritians;
To give such assistance, financial or otherwise, as the Board may determine to persons or bodies engaged in the production or exhibition of films.
The MFDC has 4 areas in which they intervene:
One-stop-shop services, provide coordinating support to both local and international filmmakers inclusively. Authorisation and clearance for shooting after obtaining the necessary documents needed.
Production Development that includes production of clips and corporate films.
Audience Development through our project cinema mobile and the organization of the film festival.
Capacity Building Development through training courses and workshops in different fields of cinema.
