ANFEN which is the short form of Adolescent Non-Formal Education Network was created in 2000 by the UNICEF organization. It is actually a combination of 4 NGOs who have joined hands and forces with a better view to turn its adolescents with whom they have been working into responsible citizens. ANFEN works with failed or drop out students at primary level and has for mission to support its members in their efforts to reintegrate those excluded from school into society.
Today it has a dynamic network of 17 NGOs in Mauritius and Rodrigues helping around 1000 vulnerable adolescents as they believe non formal education would be a better option for those kinds of students. Its priority has remained to improve the quality of the programs offered to these young people:
Finding a common approach to the methods of teaching literacy and mathematics,
By offering continuous training to educators working in NGOs that are members of our network.
ANFEN tries its best to inculcate the following values to its students as per their vision and mission:
RESPECT – acknowledge that everyone is different and has a unique contribution,
LOVE – love young people unconditionally,
LISTEN – be available to give everyone their full attention,
TEAM SPIRIT – share our resources and join forces to achieve our goal.
