Why do I sometimes use ai in my art?
Why do I sometimes use ai in my art?
Because AI is an incredible tool -- why do you use a calculator for complex calculations? Or Excel for complicated finance tracking?
Because AI enables me to explore new things that I'd never do before. In analogy, my father mountain bikes with an e-bike after ~50 years of riding. When asked if it's easier, perhaps at times, but it enables him to travel places and do rides that he could never do otherwise. AI in art is similar for me: It lets me push my boundaries on what I can accomplish.
Because AI art enables me to work faster than I otherwise could. It was the push that I needed to re-enter the art space as a busy father and full-time employee.
But isn't Art with AI wrong? I strive to follow best current practices in ethically using AI in art, including on Etsy. As an artist, I don't want others stealing from me. I never use imagery that I don't own or have permission to use in any form of commercial art, for example as inputs for image generation.

(2) Get finished product. :)
What actually goes into AI in Art:
(1) Hundreds of hours learning the... Art! of AI (platform selection, prompt exercise, parameter mastery...)
(2) Paying for quality AI products
(3) Paying for / using other tools to alter, disect, re-assemble, recomposition and professionally prepare art for real-life use (Procreate; Microsoft Office -- a separate subscription for my side work -- Canva Pro, Clipping Magic, Vectorizer.ai, etc.)
(4) Paying for quality personal equipment (Razer laptop, iPad Pro, Apple Pencil, drawing screen covers, etc.)
(5) Hours spent setting up and maintaining a product catalog + giving customer service
(6) Paying for advertising!
(7) Thousands of hours of "traditional" art + training over 30 years -- to build the skills to create meaningful, desirable art.
If you're okay with anything as your outcome... yes: AI makes it easy!
BUT people don't want anything --> They want Quality art that meets real-life customer demands. AI is just another (powerful!) tool alongside many others. 🎨🖌️🛠️
