Contemplations

Ponder His Story. | Summer 2024 - Present
Modern Christian art, while often beautiful, sometimes leaves me wanting more.
I wanted to contribute something that would cause us to think more deeply about Christ's life.
Contemplations is an artistic study of the stories we have yet to hear from Christ's life.
I push for double entendre* -- An obvious layer... And something more.
This is intentional. To stop us, catch us and our busy attention. And encourage us to go deeper.
And often, multiple images -- to pause, re-orient and consider new angles.
Paired with a study of His scriptures, May your contemplations draw you a little nearer to God and His gifts.
~Matt
* Yes: I know the vulgar (common) intent of this phrase -- I reject it as its only use.
1) Read the prompt
2) Imagine the scene -- standing there quietly in its temperature, feeling its textures, smesmells -- and feelings.
3) Ponder what its story can mean to you
Mary tells Christ the story of precious gold.
A vessel of frankincense. A curious toddler inspects his gift.
Breath catches at a child tipping a jar... falling.
Do we anger at our children and forget what is truly priceless?

A child Christ relishes in wholesome play with friends.
Do we get mired in superficial cleanliness with our kids?
We too slip in the mud, but we can still be clean.

A sun setting. A meal ending. A faithful servant looking on, unrecorded, but perhaps noticing things that the disciples have missed.
I wanted to consider on the women undoubtedly involved in preparing what would be the Savior's last meal with His disciples, and her contemplation on what this meant for her Lord.
An era ending.

A little more whimsical
More humorous and a little whimsical, I'm sure at more than one point, Mary wanted to walk.
As a side note, this was a clear AI donkeys fail ;)

🎨Note: AI makes this possible! -- It will have inaccuracies (I am not, for example, an expert on ancient Israelitish clothing -- and neither are the algorithms that I use), but God has blessed me with a tool to experiment and ponder that would otherwise be prohibitively expensive for me as a father of 4.
For this project, I primarily made use of Microsoft's free Image Creator, which at the time of writing, uses DALL-E 3 and provides some of the highest quality, free-to-use image generation tools on the market.
