When I'm not doing philosophy, I enjoy video games, reading and writing (mostly sci-fi right now), and climbing-from boulders to trees and anything in between. I also love coffee, Star Trek, and working on old Jeeps and Defenders.
I've spent most of my life camping, canoeing, and hiking, and have hiked large sections of the Pacific Crest Trail, and the Appalachian Trail. I have long term plans to thru-hike both, plus the continental divide trail.
I've also hiked most of the trails in the Everglades, Columbia River Gorge, and Western Oregon and have done extensive hiking through Utah, Virginia, and Washington.
I am often asked for photos of my favorite waterfalls, scenic views, etc. But, until very recently, I resisted documenting my life through photos, preferring to emphasize presence and cherish the memories. Admittedly, the further in time I get from these experiences, the more I regret that stance.
I also have a passion for gardening.
Gardening in South Florida can be incredibly resource intensive and damaging to the soil due to the poor nutrient holding capacity of the generally sandy soil, and the long history destructive ecological practices. While growing food is the focus of my garden, it's important to me that I leave the land in better shape than I found it.
I've been developing a gardening process for the Florida home garden landscape that is grounded in Fukuoka's "do nothing" philosophy and syntropic principles. I've included some photos from around the garden.
