BIOGARPHY

Matthew Marriott is originally from Oxford England .


Matthew first started singing in a cathedral choir at 5 years of age. He started learning piano organ and violin also from this age. He performed regularly at a high level as a pianist and violinist until he was 17 when he started to train his tenor voice under the direction of a professional teacher. He studied with several teachers most notably the great mezzo soprano Yvonne Minton and Johanna Peters and also attended masterclasses with Nicolai Gedda.

Matthew was awarded a prestigious entrance scholarship to all the major conservatoires in the UK at 18 years of age but decided to study his bachelor of music degree at the Royal Academy of music London and then also on the Opera course at the Guildhall school of music and drama London. Here he also gained a diploma (LGSM) in teaching with distinction.

Furthermore he studied a double masters degree in music and opera(Mmus Mopera) at the International Alexander Gibson opera school at the Royal Scottish academy of music in Glasgow.


As a performer Matthew made his debut at the Edinburgh International festival in Wagners Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. Matthew took the first tenor solo role as an apprentice.This was broadcast live on BBC radio. Jonas Kaufman was singing the lead role of Walter in this critically acclaimed performance.


Over 17 years as a performer he has sung many roles in Operas ,given many solo recitals and concerts and been soloist in many oratorios around the world.He has performed in the whole of UK in the major concert halls there including St Pauls Cathedral, the Barbican centre, The Albert hall, City halls Glasgow, Concert house Glasgow, Theatre Royal Glasgow and Ulster hall Edinburgh.


Matthew has sang on BBC radio and television. Most notably as tenor soloist in Handels Messiah with BBC scottish chamber orchestra and Tenor soloist in Carmina Burana with BBC scottish symphony orchestra.

He has worked with the many of the great conductors of the modern day era as a performer including Colin Davis, Zubin Metha, David Robertson, Andrew Davies.

He has sang in Finland, Sweden, Italy, France, Germany, Malaisia, Hong kong, USA and Mexico to name a few of the destinations.


Matthew was part of the Norwegian Opera Chorus for 6 years as a first tenor. During this time Matthew sang and covered several solo roles . The last of these being Walter in Wagners Tannhäuser.
