I am a Professor of Labor Economics at the Swedish Institute for Social Research, Stockholm University.

My current research agenda focuses primarily on the determinants of crime and on the effects of judicial sanctions (e.g. prison and electronic monitoring) on individuals involved with the criminal justice system and their families. I explore the effects of such sanctions on recidivism, health, mortality, and labor market outcomes. I also study co-offending networks.

Much of my previous work focused on intergenerational mobility and the importance of family background. I have also written on entrepreneurship, wage and income inequality, child poverty, and foster care.
