Need
This is an important mission as we have entered a period of increased global instability at the same time as our traditional advantages in mass production and innovation are degrading. Advancing wargaming to its next generation will provide new advantages while reducing the impact of the erosion of our traditional advantages.
Opportunity
Advances in several fields have created conditions that, if exploited, will dramatically increase the effectiveness of wargaming. Advances in artificial intelligence and increased availability can enable both more repetitions of wargames and the depiction of longer portions of conflicts. Advances in mobile computing and networking will enable all decision makers to wargame within their decision cycles. Advances in the modeling and simulation of militarily relevant economic and political factors will support wargaming conflicts from an all of nation prospective.
Impact
When need and opportunity come together truly revolutionary advances are possible. By creating a new generation of wargaming we will be able to facilitate the development of more effective strategies and more effective strategists. This will increase the odds we can deter war and win the wars we must fight in a way that increased the chances of a lasting peace.
