This assignemnt served as my introduction to InDesign. To start, I was pleasantly surprised with how similar a lot of the functions were to Adobe Illustrator. As I was looking through the assignment tab for this project, I really liked how the red example poster looked. The directions below stated that you could base your creation directly off of the example poster, so I did just that, along with my own design preferences. I began with the color selection, using columns to split my poster with two slightly different shades of blue. For my typography, I used the example poster as a guide and similarly used large, bold and white text that contrasts well with the blue background. Along with the sun vector, I wanted to do more with the background so I shaded down an image of palmtrees and expanded it to perfectly fit the background of the poster. I was definitely happy with how this one turned out!
Despite already feeling pretty comfortable with InDesign after crafting the poster design, this assignment only made me feel eve more confident in my abilities with InDesign. As I followed Prof. Grace's tutorial on how to set up the turtle publication design, I felt myself being able to follow along with ease, rather than having to constatnly double check and second guess myself before using a tool or making an edit. This was really nice for me as it definitely allowed me to be more productive in class and have a better work flow during the period. The usage of columns and being able to wrap text and format paragraphs were definitely some of my favorite skills that I learned from this assignment. It was also really fun to format the turtle photos on the second page and adjust them until everything looked right. It was also really fun matching the blue background with the water color.
