Corrosion protection is the application of anti-corrosion chemicals to prevent damages to equipment or facility caused by corrosive agents. To address the different forms of corrosion in different materials, several methods by means of materials selection, modifying the environment (corrosion inhibitors), impressed current techniques (cathodic protection, ICCP, anodic protection), coatings (organic or inorganic) and proper design will be employed.
Our research on corrosion inhibitor focusses on the utilization of natural plant extract (flavanoids, alkaloids, phenolics, cyanins) and synthetic compounds (imidazole, Schiff base) to mitigate the corrosion of metals.
Our research on coatings focusses on the modification of polymeric based (epoxy, polyurethane, alkyd, resin) and sol-gel coatings to improve the properties (wettability, homogeneity, hardness, adhesion).
Our research on electrochemical measurement focusses on the corrosion monitoring aided techniques via electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), polarization (PDP, LPR, cylic polarization), electrochemical noise, potential zero charge and open circuit potential (OCP)
