No, GoFundMe donations are considered as private gifts. Therefore, donations are not tax-deductible in Australia. Your donations will help a mother and baby to get their basic needs.
Donations will go to the expecting mothers who are struggling with poverty in Sri Lanka. We are coordinating with the Family Health Bureau, Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medicine Services of Sri Lanka to select mothers who are really in need and provide them with one maternity kit each.
A maternity kit includes all the essentials for an expectant mother nearing her due date to welcome her baby to the world. This includes clothing for the mom and the baby, sanitary items, etc. Click here to see a full list of items included in one maternity kit.
According to the Family Health Bureau, there were around 10000 mothers in Sri Lanka who could not afford the bare minimum necessities to welcome their newborn into the world. With the ongoing economic crisis in Sri Lanka, this has become worse. Therefore our effort is to provide these mothers with a pack containing the basic needs.
As of 21/04/2021, one maternity kit was found to cost around LKR 10000, (this may change due to the ongoing economic crisis and inflation in Sri Lanka). But we are trying our best to source our items in the most cost-efficient ways in order to give the best value to your kind donations.
An update will be sent to the contributors via e-mail at the end of purchasing goods and at the end of donation distributions. Apart from this, you can always refer to the 'Updates' tab on our website where we will be posting the highlights.
