ONLINE TOOLS: embed virtual tools for "hands-on" activities

This is a collection of images and links for syringes, IV bags and activities to embed in your activities for students.

DESMOS ACTIVITIES: These are sample activities that have been developed on Desmos. Desmos is a free, open resource for students and teachers. When you click a link below, it will take you to its Desmos Activity page. Click the blue button "Student Preview" to see the activity from the student perspective. Set up a free teacher account to edit and use the activities with your students.

These screens demonstrate simple activities in Desmos.

In this introductory activity, students will decide whether or not an order is safe. They will determine how much of the medication to administer. Lastly, students must decide how they will give the medication to the patient.

This activity builds connections between dosage calculations and tools/materials seen in clinical practice. Students reflect on a Medication Administration Record (MAR), before computing and "preparing" the appropriate medications. They also engage with tools (e.g. syringes, roller clamps, drip chambers) and reflect on whether a prepared dose seems appropriate.

The purpose of this activity is to help students (1) connect gtt/min calculations with the actual tools and equipment they would experience in a clinical situation; and (2) practice calculating infusion rates (gtt/min) through scaling.
