Matheus Valente

Since 2022, I'm a Margarita Salas Postdoctoral Fellow at the universities of Valencia (Valencia Philosophy Lab) and Barcelona (LOGOS). Previously, I was a FAPESP Postdoctoral Fellow at UNICAMP/CLE in my native country, Brazil. I obtained my PhD from the University of Barcelona/LOGOS in June 2020, supervised by Manuel García-Carpintero. Three years of my research were part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie DIAPHORA project (coordinated by Sven Rosenkranz), one year was supported by a CNRS assistant researcher fellowship in Paris. Apart from my time in Barcelona, I spent a year at the Institut Jean Nicod and Collège de France (Paris) working with François Recanati, and a couple of months at Stockholm University working with Kathrin Glüer and Peter Pagin.

My work has focused on topics at the crossroads of the philosophy of language, mind and epistemology. I have written about de se attitudes, communication, Frege's Puzzle, the shareability of thoughts, and iconicity/diagrams (etc!) Recently, I've been puzzling myself about the interrelations of indexicality, consciousness and the epistemology of self-locating belief. Write to me if you've also been dreaming about Lewisian gods, Perrian amnesiacs, Jacksonian neuroscientists, Sleeping Beauty et al.

Besides philosophy, I like learning languages, listening to freeform radio stations (WFMU), playing Bach on the piano and 60s music on the guitar.
