Hamden Public Schools (PreK-12)
To modernize mathematical programming, Hamden Public Schools is committed to expanding access and offering students a range of opportuntities. The district has begun integrating data science and analysis Into the math curriculum, alongside student-centered, research-based instructional strategies such as Building Thinking Classrooms. At the middle school level, all subjects have been de-leveled to provide multiple pathways for students to engage with both grade-level and accelerated content. This approach aims to eliminate early-stage tracking in mathematics, promoting equity and fostering a positive school environment. By doing so, the district ensures that courses are not percieved as having lowered expectations or being limited to students seeking rigorous math challenges. After Geometry, students now have the option to pursue various courses that do not necessarily lead to Calculus but instead open doors to a wide array of STEM opportunities, including Computer Science, real-world project-based electives, and classes offered through Gateway Community College, Southern Connecticut State University, and UCONN.Â
