Natural Numbers
Natural numbers are the numbers that are used for counting the things around us. They do starts from 1 and goes on and on.

Note: Natural numbers don't take into account the fractions and decimals.
Whole Numbers
Whole numbers do complete the natural numbers. They do start from 0 and goes on and on.
0, 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , . . .
Need of Zero : Zero gives the mathematical representation of nothingness or null.
There was an urgent need of number back in time which could answer the fact: "Number of Dinosaurs on earth". Although the idea (the knowledge) of nothingness must be there in previous times, but zero (0) gives a perfect mathematical explanation of 'no items present somewhere'.
