You Down with OERs by Brent Cooper & Kevin O'Neil (January 18)
Many identify Open Educational Resources (OER) as an alternative to costly textbooks but this represents only a small part of the narrative. This presentation aims to provide a through overview of OER and the data behind it as well as a review of faculty and librarian contributions. The presentation concludes with our very own Kevin O'Neill sharing his experiences with implementing OER in his courses.

Lisa Brown of Thompson & Horton, LLP, will be presenting on the new federal laws regarding Title IX (concerning sexual discrimination and sexual misconduct) and how they relate to recent Texas laws on the same subject. s regarding sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking (HB 1735 and SB 212).

Playing by the Rules of Mathematics by Joseph Balderas (November 15)
Math anxiety stems from a student’s lack of confidence in knowing the definitions, operations, and/or methods appropriate for a given problem. Learning to solve problems as a game will help streamline students’ mathematical process.

Developing Your Critical Thinking Skills (November 1 - 29)
In this course you will describe how different kinds of assumptions may be challenged and the importance of seeking out other people’s perspectives. Additionally, you will learn to identify and judge arguments, recognize logical fallacies and persuasion techniques, and make effective arguments of your own. Finally, you'll learn about the process of drawing a logical conclusion with the help of questions and diagramming tools.
Developing Leadership Skills (November 1 - 15)
This course aims to develop key leadership skills such as motivating employees, how to clearly communicate the organization’s vision, utilize organizational politics as a positive way to influence others to accomplish goals and improve emotional intelligence as a leader within your business environment. By discovering practical techniques for encouraging motivation among employees in your organization you will help drive your team to accomplish more. In addition, this course provides a general introduction to vision communication. You will be guided through numerous techniques and methods for a leader to successfully communicate vision, such as personalizing and multiplying a clear message, communicating enthusiasm in an authentic way, and making the organizations vision the employees' own vision. Also, this course will discuss how organizational politics can provide positive ways to influence others in order to accomplish goals. You will practice methods for influencing effectively and ethically. Finally, this course provides you with an understanding of why emotional intelligence abilities are important to you as a leader.

Manager Essentials Part 1 (September 4 - 30)
This course addresses specific challenges that first time managers suffer from to the challenges that all managers, regardless of their time in leadership, must overcome to be successful. While all managers have a high expectation to succeed many first-time managers feel they need to prove that they belong in their position. In this course, you will discover strategies for dealing with common mistakes of first time managers and ways to establish credibility and manage former colleagues effectively. You will also review key proficiencies of setting direction and establishing clear objectives and goals for your direct reports. Additionally, this course details tactical strategies for developing your employees including assessing their development needs and creating a development plan. Finally, you will review three primary reasons for dismissing an employee and the process involved with taking action.
