My research interests lie at the interface of mathematics, biology, and statistics. Using mathematical tools such as nonlinear dynamics, dynamical control theory, and statistical methods, I try to understand transmission dynamics and mitigation strategies of infectious diseases. I am also interested in the statistical modeling and forecasting of epidemic time series. In my doctoral thesis, I studied various emerging and re-emerging diseases. The work included the development of novel transmission models, mathematical analysis and investigating relevant biological/epidemiological questions using the models. Using techniques from applied mathematics, the dynamical behavior of the nonlinear systems are analyzed to reveal the forces which govern the model dynamics. In addition, when real data was available, we conducted parameter estimations and model selection. During this time, I gained a wide array of techniques including mathematical treatment of the nonlinear dynamical systems, application of optimal control theory to epidemic models, numerical simulation and parameter inference techniques. After completing my doctoral dissertation, I studied COVID-19 and dengue disease transmission through mathematical and statistical modeling frameworks.
