Warming up. This will be your first try on a topic.
During class time, you will be working on problems in your group. I will collect these problems, on Canvas or in person, at least once per week. The only goal for grading these is to ensure your group is working on the material. So, I will grade these on a completed, not completed basis.
Group work assignments can be made up during study hours.
I will drop one groupwork assignment.
Heating up! This will be your second try on a topic. You are getting comfortable.
Will have three forms of homework in our course.
On Canvas you will complete readings from the textbook and additional resources. There will be short exercises that will check if you understood these readings known as "Did I get this?" quizzes. You can attempt each of these quizzes 3 times and the questions will not change in between attempts.
Each "Did I get this?" quiz will be worth 5 points.
On Canvas we will have a discussion post roughly every 2 weeks. These will give you time to discuss concepts with your peers. There may be points assigned to correcting your posts.
Each discussion post will be 10 points.
Lastly, you will be turning in traditional homework weekly from assigned problems.
Each homework assignment will be worth 50 points.
Late homework is allowed but a penalty of 20% will be applied.
I will also drop your lowest homework score.
Sizzling! This is your third try on a topic. Now you are becoming good.
We will have a mix of quizzes on Canvas and in-class group quizzes. These will be based on homework questions.
Quizzes will be given weekly.
I will drop your lowest quiz score.
Blazing! Time to show off those skills. You're an expert now.
We have three exams in our class each worth 10% of your overall grade.
Exams will a combination of multiple-choice, "setup but don't solve", work out fully, and conceptual questions.
There will also be a portion of each exam that will be completed in groups.
If your final exam score is higher than your lowest exam, I will replace that exam score with the score from the final.
It's an Inferno now! Time to show off all of your skills.
This exam will be similar to previous exams but will cover most of the material in the course (cumulative).
Phew! I know that was a lot. I will remind you of the grading system as we go through the semester.
Grades are calculated as a weighted average, with the usual percentage marks for each letter grade. In other words, an A is 90% or better; a B is 80% or higher but less than 90%; a C is 70% or higher but less than 80%. A grade of C is required for transfer credit or credit for an Associates Degree.
Please review the Student Code of Conduct in the College Catalog. Cheating, plagiarism, copying, fraud, and/or lying may result in a grade of “F” for the assignment/test with no make-up work permitted. This also includes the use of homework resources such as Chegg. Any of these infractions may also result in formal disciplinary action by the Associate Dean of Student Affairs as described in the Student Code of Conduct.
