ABOUT ME

My name is Alyssa Krauss and I'm super-excited to be your instructor this semester. I have been teaching for 13 years, and genuinely feel that I have the best job in the world. I am also a mom to 3 amazing kids, so I'm sure that you'll hear me talk about them.  My love for math started in college when I had to take numerous math classes to satisfy a different (not math) major. Needless to say, I changed majors and never looked back!

I prefer to be called “professor” or “ Ms Krauss”, but I will answer to "teacher", "Ms K", "hey you", etc.

Math 180 is my one of my favorite subjects to teach. Calculus is, to me, when mathematics starts to become really interesting and fun. I hope that you will keep an open mind, throw away any bad experiences you have had with math, and allow me to show you the beauty of the subject from my eyes. 

MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

I firmly believe that each one of you has the capacity to be successful in this class. Futhermore, I am grateful for the opportunity to work with you and to be part of your educational journey. Utilizing multiple approaches to motivate my students, I help to foster critical thinking and to establish a learner-centered environment in the classroom. My classroom includes guided discovery, collaboration, and bursts of direct instruction. Students in my classes present their ideas, engage in class discussions, and practice self-reflection. Whenever possible, I connect lessons to the real-world.
