I know that getting good grades can sometimes be stressful. To help reduce that stress and improve the likelihood of getting your best grades, allow yourself the time and space you need to do your best work. Don't procrastinate, and if you get stuck on an assignment, reach out to me or one of your peers. I welcome your questions and I'm happy to help you think through your ideas so you can successfully complete an assignment. You know how to reach me, right?

Homework is designed as practice and a key may be provided for you to check your own work. Practice writing the homework out with the notation shown in class. It is much better for your understanding of the concepts to stay on top of the homework; budget time each day to study and/or review. There will be frequent assignments on Canvas, including discussion boards and short quizzes. I will drop the lowest quiz score and a few Canvas assignment scores at the end of the semester.
A major project will be assigned in the first week of the term. The project will require a final electronic submission of a paper. The project involves using Google Docs (like Word) and Google Sheets (like Excel) to create a professional looking product that relates the concepts of mathematical finance to your life. There will be check-in dates to show your progress and keep you on track. During the check-ins I will provide guidance and give comments and suggestions. Each check-in will be worth 5 points based on completeness. The final project will be graded based on a rubric out of 100 points.
Three Unit Exams will be given, please see the schedule for exam dates. To prepare, students should review the assigned reading, homework questions, and the lecture notes. There will be no dropped exams. Students will take their exams at the APC (Academic Proctoring Center) or other approved proctoring center, more information on this will be given in Canvas.
Students seeking a grade of Incomplete must consult with me no later than the week prior to finals. A grade of Incomplete will only be considered for unforeseeable, emergency and justifiable reasons at the end of the term, and only upon agreement of conditions for completing coursework. Students seeking a grade of Incomplete must have completed 75% of the course and request an incomplete prior to grades being submitted. https://www.miracosta.edu/student-services/admissions/forms.htm.
You have the option to choose Pass/No Pass grading for this class. If you choose this option, you must submit a Petition for Pass/No Pass to Admissions & Records by the date specified on the schedule. The petition form is available online, or from Admissions & Records. Students planning to transfer should consult with a counselor before opting for Pass/No Pass to ensure this option is accepted by their intended transfer institutions. Check the MiraCosta College catalog or schedule for more detailed information.
The maximum number of enrollments for regular courses is THREE. All grades, including withdrawals (W), are included in the count.
