Math-Drills.com was launched in 2005 with around 400 math worksheets. Since then, tens of thousands more math worksheets have been added. The website and content continues to be improved based on feedback and suggestions from our users and our own knowledge of effective math practices.
Most Math-Drills users are classroom teachers or parents. Teachers and parents can create custom assignments that assess or review particular math skills. Activities are tailored so pupils work at appropriate grade levels. Worksheets can be downloaded and printed for classroom use, or activities can be completed and automatically graded online.
The students were given questionnaires asking how often they did homework and how much time they spent on various subjects. They were also asked whether they did their homework alone or whether they had help and, if so, how often. Their academic performance in math and science was measured using a standardized test. Adjustments were made to account for gender and socioeconomic background. Prior knowledge was measured using previous grades in math and science.
The researchers found that the students spent on average between one and two hours a day doing homework in all subjects. Students whose teacher systematically assigned homework scored nearly 50 points higher on the standardized test. Students who did their math homework on their own scored 54 points higher than those who asked for frequent or constant help. The curves were similar in science.
As for working autonomously or with help, the researchers found that students who needed help and did 70 minutes of homework per day could expect to score in the 50th percentile on their test while autonomous students spending the same amount of homework time could expect to score in the 70th percentile. One possible explanation of this result is that self-regulated learning is strongly connected to academic performance and success, according to Suarez-Alvarez.

4. NCTM Illuminations: This site is an incredible resource for teachers, parents, and students. There are lessons, interactive games, and brainteasers that are all helpful with homework and extra practice at home. Recommended for PreK and up.

Wow, yeah, It would be so hard to accomplish without grading! It is practice, but I still feel that the effort needs to be rewarded. Here's how I grade homework:

Can you do a similar point system and just count it towards a team competition with points rather than factoring it into a final grade? I doubt that would work in high school, but it may motivate some middle schoolers. Maybe? That is definitely a challenge!

Our parish has also moved to no completion grades allowed. Given that I also agree that homework is an opportunity for the students to practice and correct mistakes have you read or heard of other ways we could "grade"homework?

Can you do grades at all? Here are my thoughts on just giving a 1-4 score for trying it, but if that does not work, maybe just beef up your warm-up time to review the previous day through bellringer activities?

I really like giving online homework two or three times a week. The kids get immediate feedback on each problem as they practice, which really helps their learning, and each student can proceed at his or her own pace... I use the IXL website for practice with specific skills that I assign, as well as MobyMax and Khan Academy for remediation and/or acceleration... I require the kids to work the problems on paper and turn in the work the next day, to prevent someone from just entering random answers, but no class time is needed for going over the problems. Also, the websites give me helpful data about the students' work. e24fc04721
