During class time, you will be working on problems in your group. I will collect these problems, on Canvas, at least once per week. The only goal for grading these is to ensure your group is working on the material. So, I will grade these on a completed, not completed basis.
Late group work not be accepted but I will drop your lowest group work score.
For most modules, you will complete a written lab or mini data project with your groups.
Late group work not be accepted but I will drop your lowest lab/project score.
After covering a topic in class, there will be homework and possibly discussion boards on those concepts. The homework is broken up into just a few problems at a time after reading an example and will be labeled as “Did I Get This?” quizzes. You are allowed three attempts at each quiz. The questions do not change between attempts, so feel free to review your previous answers. Also, there is feedback on most questions to guide you if you did not answer correctly.
Late homework is allowed, a penalty of 10% per day is automatically applied. A maximum penalty of 50% is applied. I will also drop your 5 lowest homework scores.
Now you are becoming good. There is a Checkpoint quiz for each module and one for each Unit. These quizzes are meant to reinforce the homework and ask more than one topic at once. You again have three attempts at each Checkpoint quiz. The questions may change, but the topic will not. There is again feedback for most questions.
The late rules are the same for the homework section. I will drop your 2 lowest Checkpoints.
We have three exams in our class each worth 10% of your overall grade. You will be able to take the exam with your group during our normal Zoom hours. Exams will resemble the Checkpoint quizzes. You can earn one pass on exams. If your final exam score is higher than your lowest exam, I will replace that exam score with the score from the final.
Time to show off your skills. This exam will be similar to previous exams but will cover most of the material in the course (cumulative). The final will be on the Tuesday of finals week, May 25th, during our normal class time.
Phew! I know that was a lot. I will remind you of the grading system as we go through the semester.
Grades are calculated as a weighted average, with the usual percentage marks for each letter grade. In other words, an A is 90% or better; a B is 80% or higher but less than 90%; a C is 70% or higher but less than 80%. A grade of C is required for transfer credit or credit for an Associates Degree.
Please review the Student Code of Conduct in the College Catalog. Cheating, plagiarism, copying, fraud, and/or lying may result in a grade of “F” for the assignment/test with no make-up work permitted. This also includes the use of homework resources such as Chegg. Any of these infractions may also result in formal disciplinary action by the Associate Dean of Student Affairs as described in the Student Code of Conduct.
