I know that earning good grades can sometimes feel stressful. To help reduce that stress and improve your likelihood of success, here are some key strategies:
For Your Best Performance:
Plan ahead and stay current with due dates - don't let them pile up
Ask for help early - reach out during office hours or through Pronto when you get stuck
Form study groups with classmates to discuss problem-solving strategies
When You Need Support: I welcome your questions and I'm happy to help you think through mathematical concepts! You can contact me through Pronto, email, or visit my office hours.
My goal is your mathematical growth and success - let's work together to make that happen!
WebAssign 24%

You will complete frequent Canvas assignments, including technology-based tasks, discussion boards, and other activities. These assignments will help ensure you're demonstrating proper mathematical notation and communication. This means clearly defining all variables, showing all steps of your calculations, including diagrams when appropriate, and writing clear, complete, grammatically correct explanations. Your explanations may be written in English, mathematical notation, or a combination of both. Presentation matters—solutions must appear in the order assigned, and final answers should be neatly boxed or circled. To support your success, I will drop the lowest few Canvas assignment scores.
Homework is designed as practice. Please practice writing the homework out with the notation shown in class. It is much better for your understanding of the concepts to stay on top of the homework; budget time each day to study and/or review. Sometimes, homework will take less time and more time could be spent reviewing the concepts. Homework is designed as practice. Homework will be submitted online on WebAssign. I will drop the lowest couple of WebAssign assignment scores.
There will be a total of three exams, please see the schedule for exam dates. To prepare, students should review the assigned reading, homework questions, and the lecture notes. There will be no dropped exams. Students will take their exams at the APC (Academic Proctoring Center) or other approved proctoring center, more information on this will be given in Canvas.
Students seeking a grade of Incomplete must consult with me no later than the week prior to finals. A grade of Incomplete will only be considered for unforeseeable, emergency and justifiable reasons at the end of the term, and only upon agreement of conditions for completing coursework. Students seeking a grade of Incomplete must have completed 75% of the course and request an incomplete prior to grades being submitted. https://www.miracosta.edu/student-services/admissions/forms.htm.
You have the option to choose Pass/No Pass grading for this class. If you choose this option, you must submit a Petition for Pass/No Pass to Admissions & Records by the date specified on the schedule. The petition form is available online, or from Admissions & Records. Students planning to transfer should consult with a counselor before opting for Pass/No Pass to ensure this option is accepted by their intended transfer institutions. Check the MiraCosta College catalog or schedule for more detailed information.
The maximum number of enrollments for regular courses is THREE. All grades, including withdrawals (W), are included in the count.
