This course introduces the use of probability techniques, hypothesis testing, and predictive techniques to facilitate decision-making. Topics include descriptive statistics; probability and sampling distributions; statistical inference; correlation and linear regression; analysis of variance, chi-square, and t-tests; and application of technology for statistical analysis, including the interpretation of the relevance of statistical findings. Students use appropriate statistical techniques to analyze and interpret applications based on data from a broad range of disciplines.
Perform arithmetic operations on real numbers.
Recognize patterns, including generalizing terms in a pattern.
Graph linear, quadratic, and exponential equations.
Solve linear equations and basic exponential equations.
Use calculators, tables, and formulas to solve application problems.
Demonstrate knowledge of functions and function notation.
Set up ratios and solve proportions.
Prerequisite: Knowledge, skills, and abilities at the intermediate algebra level as determined by the math placement process.
WebAssign - This program will allow you to complete you assignments and give you access the the two ebooks below. Access is available to purchase from the MiraCosta Bookstore or you will be able to purchase and enroll through Canvas for $90 (now $39.99).

We will be using a graphing calculator is required for this course. If you will be purchasing a calculator for this course, I strongly recommend the TI-84. There is a free online emulator. If you have an iPhone or iPad, the GrafNCalc83 app is a good substitute. For android users there is a free app called Wabbitemu. Calculators will be available for use at the APC during exams.

You can expect to spend about 12 hours per week in this class. You will be allowed to work ahead if you need to. Also, I plan to open up the course in Canvas a week early so you can take a peek around.
Our class will be completely housed on Canvas. This link will take you to MiraCosta’s Online education page. Here you will have access to the Canvas login page as well as all of the contact information to online student support. Please make sure to take the time right now to make sure you are able to login into Canvas.
A typical week in this course will consist of modules with items due usually on Tuesdays and Saturdays. You will have reading assignments from the text, videos to watch while filling in the guided notebook, homework assignments due in WebAssign, and also Canvas assignments.
I will be constantly be in touch via Canvas announcements and Pronto. Feedback will be given on assignments as annotations, rubrics, or in the assignment comments.
There are a total of three exams that need to be scheduled through the APC (Academic Proctoring Center). Please schedule them all as early as possible. If you need to reschedule, you can call the APC. The spots will fill up quickly, so please be mindful. Make sure to read through all of the APC exam information section for students. You will need to have your ID with you when you take the exam and I believe they will provide a graphing calculator for you.
If you do not live near campus there are alternative testing facilities available. You will need to contact APC for more information.
If you cannot take an exam during one of these windows, please make arrangements with me to take your exam early.

Watch all videos completely: pausing, rewinding, and taking notes when necessary
Complete the current lesson's written and online homework by due dates listed
Be prepared for assignments to be due three times a week
Keep pace with the posted due dates to aid with deeper understanding
Engage in practice opportunities and read in a timely manner
