Either individually or in teams (3 people max) select a specific domain of art, craft, design, or engineering and conduct a formative need-finding study with a minimum of 2 representative practitioners in this domain. This will require locating appropriate subjects and designing a formative study protocol, and performing a preliminary analysis of the results. Your study may consist of interviews, observation of technology use, written questionnaires, or some combination of these approaches.
Deliverables: Provide a 2 page written analysis of the results of your inquiry. The summary may include any of the following:
1) Description of your methodology: i.e. what approach did you take?
2) Description of your results- what emerged from your interview, what you observed in your observation, results of a questionnaire.
3) Description of primary themes that emerged from your observation, interview, or prototyping session.
4) Articulation of possible design goals or future avenues of inquiry based on your findings (optional)
3) Statement of your own positionally and motivation in pursing this work. (optional)
4) Inclusion of instruments (interview questions, survey, observation protocol) as supplementary items.
