At MELS, I use four separate online resources to teach reading, writing and math. This is one tool that enables me to meet the individual needs and pacing of each student. With the use of these curriculums, in correlation with direct instruction, small-group learning and one-on-one tutoring, students will achieve more in less time than the traditional classroom.
My students will have individual log-ins for these platforms. When absent, they can log-on to these databases and complete these core classes.
Find the links to these platforms below:
Night Zookeeper is an online learning program designed to make reading and writing fun for children aged 6-12. It offers a gamified experience with engaging lessons, skill challenges, and mini-games created by educational experts. The program focuses on improving core language arts skills like spelling, grammar, punctuation, reading comprehension, and writing, while also fostering creativity
Synthesis Tutor is an AI-powered math learning program for children ages 5–11. It's designed to help students build confidence and master math fundamentals. We will use Synthesis Tutor with other math practice. This AI tutor will help your child master basic math skills so we can build on them in the future.
The Survival Unit Study is 15 lessons in wilderness survival using the Bear Grylls Adventure book series as a base. This family-style unit includes engaging lessons, educational videos to enhance learning, hands-on activities, and more!
Extended Enrichment (EE) is when I get to teach the "fun stuff!" Each year the kids at MELS will get instruction in at least three focus EE areas. When you look at the schedule, you will see a smaller portion of time during the day labeled EE. Those shorter times are when I will teach skills like Time Management and Critical Thinking. Later in the day, I've set aside chunks of time for real-world exploration. (See "Schedule" tab above).
