I started my computer science journey in Freshman year of High School, a friend introduced me to coding and although my first program was the standard "hello world" in python, I was hooked. I quickly flew through the codecademy for python and loved every second. Then I took the Java and Visual Basic courses offered at my High School and realized my talent for this sort of thing.
Then I became heavily interested in Arduino and made a couple of smaller projects, until eventually making a DIY Guitar Hero controller using buttons and a joystick. This was my first foray into planning not just the electronics and code, but also the physical part of the project as well and taught me quite a bit about the design process and how different design philosophies can impact the final product.
Eventually I got into ISU for Computer Science and eventually joined the Solar Car team, becoming a main member of the Coding Team. Here I did all of the code for the motor controller as well as all of the screens for the driver. The Solar Car microcontrollers sent and received data using CANbus, which also happened to be the industry standard for cars. What I found interesting is that the same technology I was working with was used in commercial road vehicles and even real race cars.
Outside of Computers, I like to go running, hiking, rock climbing, go karting, and pretty much anything to do with the outdoors.
