History

The IEEE MASCOTS conference is a well-established forum for state-of-the-art research on the measurement, modeling, simulation, and analysis of computer and telecommunication systems. Within IEEE, the conference has been sponsored over the years by the Technical Committee on Computer Communications (TCCC) and the Technical Committee on Simulation (TCSIM). In some years, ACM has been a co-sponsor of the conference as well. The inaugural MASCOTS conference was sponsored by the Society for Computer Simulation (SCS).

The MASCOTS conference brings together academics and industry practitioners to present and discuss their latest research results in computer/communication systems. The typical technical program for the 3-day conference includes a mix of keynote talks, refereed papers, poster papers, and tutorials, as well as social events, including a welcome reception and the conference banquet.

This year's conference marks the 27th event in the MASCOTS conference series, which dates back to 1993. This page provides further background information on MASCOTS, including some of its pioneers.

Pioneers

MASCOTS is the legacy of several key individuals who had the foresight to create the conference series a quarter-century ago. These individuals include:

  • Kallol Bagchi (University of Texas, El Paso)
  • Erol Gelenbe (Imperial College London)
  • Kishor Trivedi (Duke University)
  • Jean Walrand (University of California, Berkeley)

These individuals have given a lot of their time and energy to foster and grow the MASCOTS conference, particularly in its early days. Many of them have served on the MASCOTS Steering Committee for many years, offering their wisdom and experience, and several are still very active today. Our research community owes a huge debt of gratitude to these pioneers of the MASCOTS conference series!
