Turning Ideas into Reality
As an engineering student, I have made various conceptual designs and products for my classes. I also have competed in several case competitions that challenged me to think of novel ideas. But in my spare time, I mostly tinker in my tiny workshop and experiment with a multitude of materials and different processes. I use my existing engineering skills to teach myself new ways to create, innovate, and design.
For our thesis, we designed a soft robotic gripper that picks up plastic bottles for trash-sorting applications.
The main focus of the research was to fabricate a working prototype and to integrate computer vision and machine learning for smarter automation.
The Manufacturing Engineering department awarded this a Gold Thesis Award.
The design of the chassis and silicone mould was codesigned by Chua, Lim, and me using Fusion360.
Co-created with Akeboshi, W.; Balajadia, R.; Chua, A.; Lim, Lance.
Supervised by Bedruz, R.
For product design class, we were asked to research a design a product based on research and customer surveys.
Asui, our ergonomic mouse concept, was designed and rendered by me using Autodesk Fusion360 then presented using Canva.
Co-created with Akeboshi, W. & Diokno, J.
For technopreneurship class, we were asked to create a product that had market value. So we recycled our product concept from our past case competition, L'Oreal Brandstorm 2020, for the final project. Coir Packs are sustainable packaging made with coir (coconut husk) and recycled HDPE plastic for beauty and wellness products.
The architecture of Coir Packs were designed and rendered by me using actual paper prototypes and Autodesk Fusion360
We were featured for best presentation and best pitch.
Co-created with Akeboshi, W. & Balajadia, R.
Drawings by Balajadia, R. & me
I designed and created a tray prototype that highlights the tray handles and resin art. Using 3D printing, I created a back-support assembly which keeps the handles attached to the resin tray.
For kinematics class, we were tasked to create an automaton for our final project. So we chose to do a pegasus that flapped its wings and rocked its body as it was galloping when the crank is rotating.
The mathematical concept, 3D modeling, assembly, and simulation were calculated and made by me using actual paper prototypes and Autodesk Fusion360.
Co-created with Akeboshi, W. & Balajadia, R.
I crocheted myself a tote bag that had a loop handle. It can carry all my electronics with ease. I designed the opening of the bag to close when it is being carried using the weight of the objects and the tension of the loop handle.
For the Go Green in the City case competition by Schneider Electric, we conceptualized a novel renewable energy source to desalinate seawater by combining the power of wind turbines and brine, which was the waste product of the desalination process. The goal was to supply freshwater to communities by using only renewable and sustainable resources.
We won 1st Runner Up in the National Championship.
Logo, and Visuals was designed and created by me.
