This Project was made using SketchUp and finished with hand-rendered views
Location
This project is located in the Brewster Building in Montréal, at 1050 Rue Brewster in Saint-Henri near the Lachine Canal. It has access to strong public transit access, only a 2-minute walk from Lionel-Groulx metro, and its proximity to creative and cultural spaces, making it an ideal site for a community-focused recycling and design hub.
The building is LEED Silver certification, which provides a strong foundation for a sustainability-driven project.
Mission Statement
RE:CREATE brings the community together to build a sustainable future through creativity and reuse. Our mission is to promote sustainability by giving new life to donated materials and transforming them into art, personal items, furniture, and functional pieces.
We provide a materials room filled with community contributions, a showroom to support and inspire aspiring artists, and classes in woodworking, metalworking, and other creative practices that teach people new ways to reuse materials.
Through workshops and hands-on learning, we empower our community to see the value in broken or discarded items, and discover the beauty of giving them a second life.

Design Goal
Our design goal is to create a flexible, inspiring space that continues RE:CREATE’s vision of sustainability by using recycled materials and a nature-inspired design. The center includes a gallery, adaptable classrooms and studios, a materials room near the entrance for easy donations, and office space with a conference room for administration. The layout supports circulation, collaboration, and community engagement, while encouraging visitors to see value in reused materials.
Floor Plans
The ground floor is designed around sustainability, reuse, and clear wayfinding. Green and orange flooring helps guide users between classrooms, workshops, and material spaces, while different materials define each function: recycled rubber is used in high-traffic areas like the workshop and materials room, wood flooring is used in classrooms and public zones, and natural brick continues through the entrance and gallery to create a warm, cohesive feel.
Hand Rendered | Entrance/Reception
At the entrance, a seating area connects visually to the upper office and meeting room, alongside a small indoor garden with hanging herbs that support cooking classes and reinforce the sustainable concept.
Hand Rendered | Gallery/Sales
The lounge and classroom areas provide flexible spaces for work, rest, and collaboration. Wayfinding continues throughout with coloured flooring and numbered doors, and much of the furniture is made from reused materials such as plywood, wood scraps, and recycled components to reinforce the overall design concept.
Hand Rendered | Gallery/Sales
The gallery showcases student work made from reused materials and helps support the community through sales and awareness of waste reduction. Deeper into the space, a café area allows students to practice low-waste cooking

Hand Rendered | Materials Room
The materials room is a storage space for reused materials such as wood, fabric, and metal, organized for easy access and sorting. It includes a work table made from recycled wood and shelving built from recycled plywood, with a durable rubber floor to withstand heavy use. Located near the back exit, the space allows for easy material delivery and efficient storage.
