The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education established the SEAMEO Education Agenda, or the seven priority areas for SEAMEO to collaborate on to improve quality education in Southeast Asia, in October 2014. One of the major areas in establishing quality education for the region is "revitalizing teacher education". To achieve this goal, the SEAMEO Secretariat has launched the "Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in South East Asia (SEA- TEACHER PROJECT)."
1) To enable the student teachers to develop their teaching skills and pedagogy.
2) To encourage the student teachers to practice their English skills.
3) To allow the student teachers to gain a broader regional and world view.
4) To expose future teachers to diverse teaching and learning situations and opportunities, and the value of flexibility.
The SEA-Teacher Project provides me with an opportunity to enhance my English speaking abilities, confidence, culturalization, and perspective as a pre-service teacher. As a future educator, I must learn not just information but also experience in education because I cannot teach what I do not know. And the most valuable gift I can give my students is the knowledge I learned from those experiences. That is the reason why I joined the SEA-Teacher Project - to gain experience, to learn from those experiences, and to share those learnings.
