I am currently investigating population genomics and diet of little brown bats in the Canadian Praries. Stay tuned for more details!
Understanding population trends requires long-term data, which often does not exist. However, genomic methods may allow accurate inference of population size changes, empowering management decisions and uncovering the effects of environmental stressors.
The disease white-nose syndrome has wiped through North America, decimating bat populations over the last ~20 years. Population weight change is theorized to aid adaptation. However, establishing baseline measurements and recognizing changes can be tough. With a large team, I am investigating weight changes in Midwest US little brown bats, tricolored bats, big brown bats, Indiana bats, northern long-eared bats, and gray bats.
