1. FRUIT, VEGETABLES - You can't eat enough fruit and colorful vegetables. Try to limit white vegetables like potatoes and eat TONS OF GREENS. If you like salads, limit the cheese and dressing - try some olive oil and vinegar or low calorie dressings.
2. LIMIT FRIED FOODS - If you can get it sauteed or baked, try that option instead.
3. LEAN MEATS - Chicken, turkey, and fish are lean meats and do not contain a lot of saturated fats. Limiting saturated fats is a good way to lose weight and feel better. Having said that, eating some beef once a week is important - there are special vitamins and other substances you can't get in lean meats. Also, EGGS are super! If you like them, make an omelette or scrambled eggs with egg whites. EGG WHITES are one of the best foods for building muscle, as they are full of powerful proteins.
4. WHOLE GRAINS - Cereal, tortillas, pastas, rice and breads CAN BE OK but look on the ingredients. If it has the word "enriched" in it, its not good for you. Look for "whole grain" on the first ingredient of these foods. Still, limit the amount of sugar you get from these foods. You can get much better sugar from fruit.
5. EAT OFTEN - Eating often throughout day but limiting portions is a great way to maintain your metabolism. Eating once a day and not eating again teaches your body to hold on to calories since it won't see more for another 24 hours.
