Toward an Understanding of IMF and WTO Economic Surveillance
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Trade Organization (WTO) have become easy targets for criticism in recent years. In both cases, the day-to-day activities of these organizations have not gained sufficient scholarly attention. Both institutions practice policy monitoring of countries. My research seeks to develop a better understanding of how this surveillance works. This helps us not only to more fully understand the influence of these organizations, but also better understand how international organizations work. Surveillance is an ordinary part of what international organizations do, in areas from human rights to global health and the environment.
