Students making a star with their hands

Assessment Types

In Class Work

During class we will work together, quietly, and in groups to understand the topic at hand using a worksheet created for each class. This worksheet will never be graded, but gives you the opportunity to know what we discussed in class if you were absent.

ALEKS Homework

At the end of most class meetings, there will be a few problems for you to do on ALEKS. These will not be graded. However, it is important to do them as this is your opportunity to learn. Just like practicing for a sport or anything else in life, you must practice math as well.

While there is a due date, you can continue to work on these homework assignments through the end of the semester. The due date is just to help keep you organized.

Prep Assignments & Checkpoints

There are two types of assignments that make up this category. The first is prep assignments that will help prepare you for the lesson by asking you a few questions. Some of these will be worksheets you submit on Canvas, some will be on ALEKS, and some will be something you bring to class.

The second are checkpoints to help see where you are and give you a little extra to think about with respect to the lesson.

Discussions

There will also be three Discussions on Canvas throughout the semester. You will be required to give your prompt before seeing any other prompts. In addition, you will be required to respond to at least two of your classmates. There is always a rubric for the Discussions and I highly recommend you read it first.

Unit Projects

At the end of each unit there will be a 'Unit Project' to assess how well you understand the material we learned. These are done at home and you will have an opportunity to make corrections until you have earned credit.

Unit Reflection & Self Assessment

At the end of each unit I will ask you to reflect on what you have learned and assess how well you believe you have learned the material.

Final Self Assessment

At the end of the semester, you will turn in a final assessment reflecting on the entire class and assessment what you have learned.
