2025 Jeanie Larson Dobbins Scholarship Winner: Melanie Mowery

As a PK-1 Instructional Coach Melanie is dedicated to fostering literacy success for all students. Over her 21 year career she has focused on helping young learners overcome literacy challenges and has supported teachers in implementing evidence-based, inclusive instruction to make literacy growth possible. "Attending the MARRE LitMO Conference would provide me with invaluable professional learning to strengthen my work with teachers and students across 33 kindergarten and first grade classrooms and four K-1 special education classrooms - impacting nearly 900 students. The conference would allow me to learn from literacy experts, explore the latest research in early reading intervention, and collaborate with educators who share a passion for equitable literacy outcomes."

2025 Linda Dorn Scholarship Winner: Leah Koenigsfeld

With limited district funds for professional development, this scholarship will make it possible for Leah to attend the one conference she eagerly anticipates each year. As a Title I teacher she appreciates the importance of phonics-based instruction to address gaps in student learning along with the necessity of providing students with engaging books that stimulate critical thinking beyond the text. "This creates an effective learning environment that fosters strong strong readers. The LitMO MARRE Conference is among the premier events for promoting a balanced literacy approach that integrates phonics with balanced literacy strategies. Having attended this conference for the past two years, I always leave feeling equipped with innovative ideas to share with my district."
