Dr. Garrett Lowder

2025 Linda Dorn Literacy Leadership Award

In memory of Dr. Linda Dorn and to honor her legacy, each year the Missouri Association of Reading Recovery Educators recognizes a leader whose efforts has successfully coordinated systemic change and, as a result, has helped districts attain high student achievement.

The 2025 recipient is Dr. Garrett Lowder, Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services and future Superintendent for Marshfield Public Schools. Dr. Lowder was instrumental in developing Marshfield’s Three Year Comprehensive Literacy Plan. His advocacy for Reading Recovery and Linda Dorn’s CIM and CLM models provides a consistent framework for teaching and continuous professional development in literacy. This focus has contributed to the overall growth and success for the teachers and students at Marshfield.

In Dr. Lowder’s six years at Marshfield, the Reading Recovery has been fully implemented, instructional coaches have been hired to work with classroom teachers, and model classrooms have been implemented. “With a clear vision and steady guidance, Dr. Lowder ensures the team stays focused and united in purpose. His commitment to listening, supporting others, and fostering collaboration reflects the highest standard of leadership and integrity.”

Registration for 2026 will be through Oklahoma State University
