No idea why but I can't change the sound for Google Messages. I can change the notification sound for individual conversations but not all incoming messages. If I use Verizon's Messaging app, I can change the sound. This is on a S21 Ultra with Android 12 and latest August Security patch.

I've spent the last 30 minutes trying to change the Message notification sound. I've found many articles and forum messages that describe how to change the setting but apparently they have recently changed things as the options are not what is described.

To give this contact the option to override a Focus, so any important messages can get through, turn on Emergency Bypass. You might turn it on for a family member, caretaker, or colleague, for example.

I just got the Samsung S23 Ultra and I set my default text messaging app to Message +. I set up all notifications to be a specific sound within the Message+ app. (Message+ Settings - Customize - Notifications - Sound). However it only wants to use the notification sound within the sound settings of the phone itself. I don't see any other thread that fixes this issue. I need help trying to get Message + to use the correct notification sound for new messages without having to change the notification sound for all notification for every app on the phone.

I've spent time on the phone with Verizon Support and after no success they directed me to Samsung Support. Their concern was, will the notifications play correctly with Samsung Messaging App. It did play correctly with their app. That was the end of their Support. So the problem still exists for me. If I want to use Verizon Message + I'm locked into the same sound no matter what I select. The problem is the app, now how about a fix.

For clarity, there are three hierarchical areas where the sound for Message+ notifications can be set. I think most people should find the following bullets intuitive regarding setting these notification sounds.

2) At the "parent" level of Verizon Message+ App > Menu bar at top left of the App > Customize > Notifications. It makes sense that at this level all contacts would trigger this notification sound which would override the above system setting. The caveat would be that a specific contact has a custom sound which overrides this "parent" setting as depicted in bullet 3 below.

3) While in an individual contact's message thread, click on three dots on upper right. Go to Customize > Notifications. It makes sense that if this sound is set to something different than the "parent" setting (above), then this contact's sound would honor the specific sound set thereby overriding the parent.

Hello Verizon support. This is a frustrating issue since the use case is clear. At a minimum each app should be able to have it's own sound to alert the user and a fix for this should be simple, yet the issue persists. This is not an OS issue nor is it a Samsung issue.

Since upgrading my Macbook Pro 2019 to Monterey, I've been receiving intermittent text chimes (the default message audible notification) despite having disabled this in preferences. It doesn't happen for every single incoming message, but roughly 1 in 5. For whatever reason, this sound scares my dog, and it's getting really irritating that I can't disable the sound fully. I would like to continue receiving banner notifications visually. I obviously don't get the chime if the computer is muted, but it'd be cool if I could, you know, listen to music.

I would even settle for changing the message notification sound to a different sound (I did this easily on my iPhone) but I can't find that setting either. I'm stumped and my dog is miserable. Please help.

Text notification sounds work fine when a text message is closed. If Ihave the text string open and a new one comes in, no sound. This worked before. Now, I have to constantly watch the phone to see when a new one comes in or constantly close the message.

This is absolutely ridiculous. There is no purpose to have NO notification if the texting app is open. It is a waste of battery use having to keep it open so you don't miss a text. Is this a ploy to get all customers to buy Iphones???? I will switch to a different carrier before I pay for a new phone. With all the better deals out there from other carries this is a stupid move on ATT' s part.

Has anyone found a fix around this problem, or different message ap that will give notification? I'll be switching phones and carriers for this when the contract is up. Text messages are an important method of communication these days. I can not be missing messages. Its a shame some pin head in a position of authority made the decision to allow this to happen.

This is a terrible inconvenience. Please put it back, I am missing text messages and I need to be able to work effectively. I've switched from iPhone to Samsung because the phone got such a good rating - I'm ready to switch back to iPhone.

With Android, very few applications are "special". By special I mean the OS is aware of them and treats them differently. In Android, an application actually has to manage notifications themselves, there's no way for the OS to somehow figure it out and expose a setting for it. Notification sound customization has to be exposed by the individual application developer, not through Android itself. When an application creates a status bar notification, by default Android will play the sound that you set in the default Notification setting. But the application can explicitly provide a different sound to play. The application would have to manage that themselves (it would be nice if Android allowed apps to register for custom notifications and then it could provide a central location for all of them, but I'm not aware of a facility for doing this).

I use SMS Popup to manage notifications for text messages, and leave the email notifications to be handled by the default notification settings. This allows me to set custom sounds, vibrations and LED flashes (hardware allowing) for SMS text messages that separate them from emails and other notifications.

Hello. Whenever I get a direct message on Zoom chat, I do not get a notification sound. Although in my Zoom > Preferences > Chat > Play sound when I receive a new message (is checked).

By default, only direct messages (DMs), mentions, and keywords will trigger notifications in Slack. You can change your preference to be notified about all new messages sent in conversations you're a part of, or nothing at all.

You can set keywords to trigger notifications about topics that are important to you. Whenever someone uses one of your keywords in a channel you've joined, you'll receive a notification and see the keyword highlighted in yellow.

By default, the Slack app will run in the notifications area even when the window is closed. Choosing not to leave the app running will remove the Slack icon and badges from your notifications area. Here's how to keep the app from running in the notifications area when the window is closed:

If you'd like to change what messages you're notified about in specific channels or direct messages, you can configure conversation-specific notifications. If you'd rather not receive notifications about any messages in a particular channel or direct message, you can mute the conversation.

Microsoft Teams offers different ways to access, receive, and manage notifications. These settings include how, when, and where your notifications appear, custom settings for channels and chat, appearance and sounds, turning off specific messages, and so on.

Microsoft Windows can block notifications before they appear in Teams. Follow the instructions in Change notification and action settings in Windows 10 to make sure that your system settings allow apps (including Teams) to send notifications to you.

Select Edit next to Chat, then choose Only show in feed for a specific category. All notifications for that type of activity will be sent to Activity , which you can find at the top left corner of Teams.

Go to Activity on the left side of Teams, hover over the notification that you want to change, and then select More options .

From here, mark a notification as read or unread, turn off notifications for reactions and apps, and on channel notifications you can adjust what kind of activity you get notified about for that specific channel. 006ab0faaa
