Formed in 2000, the Maros Hungarian Folk Dance Ensemble embodies passion and deep respect for our rich and diverse folk culture. Our group is unique, as it comprises dancers from three of the Prairie Provinces and five cities. Although our members reside in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, we all travel to meet up for regular weekend-long rehearsals, as well as numerous performances and workshops. These weekends allow us to work intensively on our repertoire, enjoy each other's company, and immerse ourselves in the richness of our culture's music, dance, and cuisine.
Our goals are to engage Canadian audiences, building interest in Hungarian Folk Dance and Music; to share our skills with Hungarian-Canadian audiences, maintaining and promoting pride in our shared heritage; to educate the public through performances and workshops; and to encourage youth to participate, supporting growth for the next generations of Hungarian dancers and musicians.
We are proud to participate in the Western Canadian Hungarian Folk Festival each year and are looking forward to hosting this annual festival in 2023!!!
