As I was accepted into the MLIS program, a friend asked me what I would learn that everyone didn’t already know. At the time, I answered that I wasn’t sure, but it was necessary to move forward. Since then, I learned the MLIS is really an industry-specific MBA. I can manage a large organization with confidence. I know how to navigate complex technology, challenging relationships and big data. Most important, I gained the flexibility to change my skill set on demand through a heightened awareness of information gap. When I don’t have enough information; I get it. The ability to identify my ignorance and accelerate past barriers are the ultimate lessons I will take into the decades ahead.
