An overview of NYU Tisch’s Dance programs

Mark Hochberg, a dance major at NYU, eats, lives, and breathes dancing. Even in quarantine, he makes the most of his time by blogging about dance and discussing his love for the art.

For this blog, he gives a brief overview of NYU Tisch dance programs.

The Department of Dance at NYU Tisch School of the Arts offers several programs that have produced some of the most acclaimed dancers and choreographers in the world. Many of the young enrollees are already gifted, to begin with, and need only the guidance that NYU Tisch provides.

Programs include contemporary dance, traditional ballet, and choreography as well as theory, composition, kinesiology, dance science, history of dance, music, acting and dance, and dance and technology. All classes are taught in a challenging but nurturing environment, with well-known artists occasionally dropping in to impart their knowledge and experience.

Similar to the greatest dance schools in the world, NYU Tisch uses an interdisciplinary approach that enhances not just a student’s dance talents but their overall creativity. In fact, students also have a chance to work alongside enrollees from other programs such as music, design, and media arts to simulate how it is to work in the real world with other artists.
