First Day of 3rd Grade!
We are going to have a fantastic year together!
From,
Mrs. Gallagher
After completing their Animal Research Reports, students wanted to share their knowledge with their peers by creating posters and presenting them to the class. It was a wild and wonderful way to end our animal research!
During this lesson, each student was given a piece of the multiplication table. Students had to work together as a class to identify patterns within the multiplication chart to make it whole again! In the next lesson, students practiced adding with 4 addends with another puzzle (productive practice context)!
Our class had a fantastic time at Field Day! Lots of sun and fun activities that filled out day. We got SOAKED, but we still managed to make it through the day with a smile!
During our Weather Unit, we also learned about wind! Scientists use an anemometer to measure its speed and a wind vane to determine its direction. We even made our own wind vanes and tested them!
The wind was blowing to the east!
During our Weather Unit in science, our class went outside every day to make observations and predictions about the weather. In addition, we set up rain gauges to measure the amount of precipitation for one week!
During this math lesson, students were tasked with accurately measuring and cutting strips based on measurements on a line plot. Ultimately, students utilized the colored strips to design their group project.
For our Life In Ecosystems Unit, our class planted Wisconsin Fast Plants, and have been observing their growth over the last few weeks!
For our Life In Ecosystems Unit, our class learned about the butterfly life cycle. For about 2-3 weeks, we were able to observe the life cycle firsthand starting from larvae to butterflies. We recently released our butterflies into the wild and wanted to share this special moment with you!
For our Life In Ecosystems Unit, our class learned about different ecosystems including the Artic tundra, desert, rainforest, grasslands, and woodlands. We did some research and created group posters, which we presented to the class.
For Fun Friday, our winning table decided to pick a science experiment. This week, we made elephant toothpaste and discussed what an exothermic reaction is!
Celebrating 100 days of learning and laughter!
Celebrating love day in our classroom!
During the Lenape Unit, students learned about the indigenous people of New Jersey. Different Lenape tribes lived all over New Jersey including the Munsee (north), Unalachtigo (central), and Unami (south). Students made their own headdresses, which were worn during celebrations and ceremonies (powwows).
We had a wonderful time learning about different holiday traditions all around the world. We even learned to play dreidel!
Happy holidays to all and see you in 2025!!!
In honor of the annual Macy's Day Thanksgiving Parade, we wrote letters to Mr. Macy to pitch our creative balloon designs! We had a blast and hope you love our fantastic designs!
Happy Thanksgiving!
During ICE, we learned about sustainability, renewable resources, and clean energy. Our class created model wind turbines for our final project using the science kits provided. The students did a wonderful job and we were even able to test them on a windy day!
This week, we completed our unit on Forces and Motion. During this unit, we conducted several different experiments to develop our understanding of force, motion, friction, inertia, and magnetism. Take a look at what we have learned!
We learned about different geometric shapes and mosaics! Students were tasked with identifying the various shapes using specific vocabulary (sides, vertex, angles). Then, students were asked to make a mosaic using the shapes provided.
In science, we are learning about forces and motion. During this lesson, we learned about balanced forces!
Materials:
beam board, fulcrum, level, 10g weights, washers
This marking period, we have ICE and we are currently learning about sustainability and renewable energy.
During ICE, students are asked to imagine, plan, and build their own form of renewable energy using wind turbines. We learned about wind energy and how it can help improve our environment and overall quality of life!
Clean energy is the best energy!
We just finished our Civics Unit and wanted to apply our knowledge this Election Day. Today, students presented their "If I Were the President" worksheets and voted for a class president. I will announce the winner tomorrow, and they will receive a special prize!
Some more Halloween pictures...
And special thanks to our wicked class parents!!!
Thank you for a wonderful party, and we can't wait for the next one!
We had a spooky & sweet Halloween! Here are some solo pictures of our favorite ghouls & goblins!
Today, we had the Harlem Wizards Assembly where students enjoy some awesome basketball tricks! One of our students was chosen to help show off some moves and we were so proud of him! Way to go team!
Tuesday, 11/19- Harlem Wizards Game at Monmouth Regional HS (7-9PM)
More updates on our beloved Snappy! We are watering our plant daily and are doing a wonderful job! Tomorrow, we will be feeding him. Stay tuned!
Anti-Bullying BMX Bike Assembly
Yesterday, we had an Anti-Bullying BMX Bike Assembly where the students learned about the three R's:
Recognize, Refuse, React
We had a spectacular time! Check out Dialed Action Sports Team for more information!
Week of Respect
Last week was the Week of Respect, and we focused on how we can be respectful to our teachers, classmates, and community. We also had an opportunity to go outside and do a team-building activity! Great job, team!
Fire Prevention Week
Today, the Tinton Falls Fire Departments visited SRS and discussed fire safety and prevention. Sparky would be so proud!
Innovamat Lesson:
Geometric Dictation
We learned about Geometric Dictation! Students were tasked with recreating the figure on the board without looking. Two students were chosen to be the "eyes" and provide specific directions on how students should position themselves.
We are learning to be responsible by watering and feeding Snappy!
Hello again! As I mentioned in our weekly newsletter, we have a new class member! Snappy is a Venus Fly Trap and we are excited to learn more about him and take care of his needs! Stay tuned for more updates on our carnivorous friend!
Fun Friday:
Science Experiment!
Last week, the winning table chose a science experiment for their Fun Friday Activity! We did a quick review of the states of matter and conducted an experiment that produced a chemical reaction. Lots of buzz words! We had so much fun and even learned a little something!
Innovamat Lesson: Place Value
We learned about place value using money (dollar coins) and an abacus. I brought in dollar coins and other foreign currency to help students make real-life connections to their learning! They were excited to see money from all around the world!
