Welcome!
I am Maria Rubio-Cabañez, a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre d'Estudis Demogràfics (CED), Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB).
My research focuses primarily on the impact of environmental factors, such as outdoor spaces and extreme temperatures, on child development. I am particularly interested in how these environmental influences vary as a function of children's socioeconomic status (SES), which is shaped in part by spatial organization. In essence, my work seeks to understand how disparities in environmental exposures contribute to divergent developmental outcomes among children from different SES backgrounds.
Alongside this, I am currently expanding my research to explore how digital time use influences the development of young people. As part of the DIGINEQ team, my work examines how unequal patterns of digital engagement may contribute to widening developmental inequalities among children and adolescents from different socioeconomic backgrounds.
