Bio
María Gabriela Rubio Hernández is a Colombian composer, playwright, stage director, stand up comedian, sculptor and performer who focuses on electronics, acoustics, mixed composition, and interdisciplinary media.
She has been selected as a guest performance artist at the Seattle Erotic Art Festival (SEAF) (2026), invited to the TAR Festival in Finland (2026),Sselected fellow for the Composers’ Lab — New Amsterdam Records USA (2026), fellowship recipient from the Darmstädter Ferienkurse to participate in the Sonic Writing & Sounding residency (2025), mentee artist for the Forecast 2025 International Mentorship Program at Radialsystem, Berlin to develop a project under the guidance of Elaine Mitchener (2025) and awarded the New Music Commissioning Programme 2025/2026 by the British Council and Sound and Music UK.
Her works have been featured in the Mosaik project by Calmus Ensemble Leipzig (2021), the Festival En el Acto de Sonar (2023), the MUSLAB - Planeta Complejo Exhibition (2024), the Sonósferas Festival (2024), the Bogotana Records 2024 album, the Finale Exhibition by Aedra Fine Arts (2025), the Iceland Noise Festival (2025), the Darmstadt Summer Course (2025), and the Forecast-Platform (2025-2026). Her piece Literatura como fuente de Conocimiento won the National Young Composers Competition of the Banco de la República (2024).
She has studied with Jorge García Moncada, Ana María Romano, Catalina Peralta, Cedrik Fermont, Antye Griepatti, Elaine Mitchener, Bergrún Snaebjördóttir and Atli Ingólfsson. She has participated in workshops with Carlos Mastropietro (Mixed composition for saxophone and electronic media), Nicolas Collins (Feedback), Amanda Gutiérrez ( Sound art and augmented reality), Martha de Francisco (Chorus recording), Scott Wilson ( Mixed composition for strings and electronic media) and Jaap Blonk (Sound Poetry).
As a speaker, she has given the talk Mixed Music at the National Open and Distance University (UNAD, 2024), been a guest composer on the Argentine radio program RadioCaso as part of Sonar y Conspirar at the En Tiempo Real festival (2023), spoken about The Bestiaries in Jorge García’s Work Bestiario at the Tierra de Aves Festival (2022), and lectured on Music and Cabaret Theater for the Compositorio Association (2021)
